Elizabeth Taylor
(1932 – 2011)

on wednsday, March 23rd, Elizabeth Taylor - the greatest diva who ever lived - passed away at the age of 79. that same night my friend Pammy and I needed to watch Cleopatra. holy sh-t. how sexy was Liz in that? everything was perfection. please. Richard Burton didn't stand a chance...

she was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California. it was a very private affair, with only a small group attending. and of course, she was late.

!

family and friends were kept waiting for 15 minutes for her $11,000 coffin to be carried in. her publisist later revealed that she had wanted to be late to her own funeral. amazing.

this year i read "Furious Love: Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, and the Marriage of the Century" - it's an AMAZING biography about their tempestuous love affair. holy sh-t. the stories in the book are epic - it all started with meeting on the set of Cleopatra. it was then when the scandal of their infamous love-affair began (they were both married to others). the book dishes on the drama, the fights, the love letters, the alcohol, the diva tantrums... it's a must read for anyone obsessed with what went down between "Dick and Liz."

Elizabeth Taylor was married 8 times (twice to Richard Burton) - no one can say that the woman didn't live passionately... she won two Oscars for her performances in Butterfield 8, and for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? - but my favourite of her many movies was A Place in the Sun (1951) also starring Montgomery Clift and Shelley Winters. Elizabeth was only 17-years-old when she starred in this, but seemed so much older (in a good way) and mature. do yourself a favour - if you haven't seen it yet, pay tribute this month and do so.
